Why is my Amazon parrot suddenly sitting in his food dish?

My husband's Amazon parrot has recently taken to sitting in his food dish. He settles in and then makes his 'I-am-so-happy' chirp noises. He has never done this before. He barely fits in the dish. Does he want/need somewhere to sit down? He has multiple perches, but not really any flat space. Does anyone else have a parrot that does this?
